Demons are supernatural beings that are malevolent but not humans. These are generally considered as unclean spirits and may possess human too. It may or may not be controlled. If any human is possessed, then exorcism is the probable way to get the demon out of the body of the one possessed. It is not uncommon to find any incident in which demons have no t caused any harm. After possession, they may cause disturbing things and even harm the possessed or his/her near ones.
The existence of these demons is stated to be very old. Also, these evil spirits have been a part of almost every religion and part of the world. Even the oldest of the civilizations left paintings and marking denoting such spirits. One thing in modern times that was quite prevalent was misunderstanding demonic possession to be multiple identity disorder. Those who did not believe in the presence of demons and evil spirits till modern times argue that the person who claim to be possessed suffer from multiple personality disorder.
It is yet to determine that whether this is the truth or no. But not every person who claims to be possessed may be possessed. Some might be suffering from this disorder. However, those who believe in the existence of demons do try to seek help in case of such problem. They believe that only god can save them from the evil. Probably not every time this thinking is successful. Some of the very famous examples of demonic possession also state that while a few were cured through exorcism, others died.
